Performance evaluation of seismically isolated buildings near active faults

چکیده
This paper investigates the collapse risk of seismically isolated buildings that are designed by procedures ASCE/SEI 7-16 standard for sites within 5 km active fault controls hazard. The study is based on six-story perimeter frame with special concentrically braced frames a location in California. seismic isolation systems considered this comprised either: (i) triple friction pendulum bearings high coefficients at sliding interfaces, (ii) low coefficient surfaces and enhanced fluid viscous dampers, or (iii) surfaces. demonstrates per Section 17.3.3 standard, but either increased isolator displacement capacity superstructure strength comparison to minimum required, can achieve an acceptable risk. It also demonstrated have best performance far-field motions not necessarily near-field pulse-like ground motions.

Observed Behavior of Seismically Isolated Buildings
Strong motion recordings from four seismically isolated buildings are used in time-invariant and time-variant modal identification analyses. The buildings are identified as equivalent, time-varying, linear dynamic systems characterized by their time-varying modal parameters (including fundamental-mode natural frequencies, damping ratios, and mode shapes). The identification analyses for each si...
متن کاملUltrasonic Lateral Displacement Sensor for Health Monitoring in Seismically Isolated Buildings
An ultrasonic lateral displacement sensor utilizing air-coupled ultrasound transducers is proposed. The normally-distributed far field of an ultrasound transducer in a lateral direction is taken advantage of for measuring lateral displacement. The measurement system is composed of several air-coupled ultrasound transducers as a receiver and several transmitters. The transmitters are immobilized...
متن کاملMulti-objective Optimization of Semi-active Control of Seismically Exited Buildings Using Variable Damper and Genetic Algorithms
Semi-active fluid viscous dampers as a subset of control systems have shown their ability to reduce seismic responses of tall buildings. In this paper, multi-objective optimization of the performance of this group of dampers in reducing the seismic responses of buildings is studied using multi-objective genetic algorithms. For numerical example, two 7 and 18 stories buildings are chosen and mod...

Seismic base isolation are devices that used to limit the human and material damage caused by an earthquake. This devices diffuse the energy induced at the time of the earthquake before being transferred to the structure. The base isolated structures when subjected to the near-fault eathquakes which contain long-period velocity pulses that may coincide with the period of base isolated structures...
متن کاملAplication of a Fuzzy Controller to Seismically Excited Nonlinear Buildings
Focuses on the benchmark control problems for seismically excited nonlinear buildings defined by Ohtori et al. (2000). This benchmark study focuses on three typical steel structures, 3-, 9and 20-storey buildings designed for the SAC project for Los Angeles in the California region. The first stage of applying the fuzzy controller to this benchmark study for the 3-storey building is reported. Th...
